“It seems to be an eternity ago that we experienced a club night or a festival.” realizes Funkerman. He is one of many artists who have to wait on the sideline for a long time till the government allows more in the club scene. Till the moment was there that the 113 on the DJ Mag understood: an artist must express himself with music. That’s the big theme of his new album: ‘Sentiment’.
‘Sentiment’ is a title that unleashes a lot of Funkerman’s emotions. The kick-off of this album is taking a much different shape in these times. Its approach had to be different. That’s why all tracks are processed in a live mix to create the right atmosphere. By doing this, the Dutchman wants to add an extra dimension: “Playing in front of a lot of an audience is a non-story at the moment. ‘Sentiment’ refers to a time where freedom was just an ordinary thing. The anger, sadness, loss of a loved one and the search for hope are aspects of behaviour you see at your nearest.” To give the right emotion to the live mix, Funkerman recorded it a few times. Like, 15 times. “I hope that people understand and feel what emotions I want to communicate when they’re listening to this new album.” he underlines.
